We suggest casual attire for the day with closed-toe shoes for safety; sandals and heels are not recommended. We are requesting cocktail or business attire for the evening events. Official military uniforms are welcome.

18) Will the ship be heated?

Not during the daytime event. This event is in July, and we expect summer weather. However, if the evening event requires it, there will be heating aboard ship. Please keep in mind that this is a large ship and can be drafty. We recommend that you bring a jacket or light sweater to enjoy the evening stars. If weather permits, the Flight Deck may be open for star-gazing.

19) How many people are expected?

Splashdown 2009 drew more than 3,500 visitors throughout the day. We are planning on 300–500 for the evening events.

20) Are children allowed?

Children are most welcome and encouraged for the daytime event. The evening events welcome older youth to attend, but keep in mind it will be a banquet atmosphere — there are no special activities planned for children and there are no ticket discounts. All youths must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

21) How do I get to the ship?

Driving directions will be mailed with the tickets and are posted on our official website. We can also be found by using an address mapping system such as Google Maps: USS Hornet Museum, Alameda 94501.
